Luther on Diapers

This past week I was reminded of a quote from Martin Luther in which he spoke about fathers changing/washing the diapers of their children:

“God, with all his angels and creatures, is smiling–not because the father is washing diapers, but because he is doing so in Christian faith.”

A labor of love, indeed.  God values family life, even the often smelly tasks of dealing with soiled diapers.  Luther likens our sins to the stench of such diapers, showing how God lovingly deals with His people despite our transgressions.  We do well to remember that analogy.
