Question 111: What do we pray for in the fourth petition?
Answer: In the fourth petition, which is, Give us this day our daily bread (Mt. 6:11), we pray that of God’s free gift we may receive a competent portion of the good things of this life, and enjoy his blessing with them (Pr. 30:8; Gn 28:20; 1 Tim. 4:4, 5).
Question 112: What do we pray for in the fifth petition?
Answer: In the fifth petition, which is, And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors (Mt. 6:12), we pray that God, for Christ’s sake, would freely pardon all our sins (Ps. 51:1, 2, 7, 9; Dan. 9:17-19); which we are rather encouraged to ask because of his grace we are enabled from the heart to forgive others (Lk. 11:4; Mt. 18:35).
Question 113: What do we pray for in the sixth petition?
